The NWHL retired its inaugural-season jerseys after one year and has opened a fan vote to decide the 2016-17 sweater designs.

The National Women's Hockey League is all systems go for its second season in 2016-17. Its sweaters, it turns out, were one-offs. The league announced Thursday all four teams – The Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale and New York Riveters – were retiring their inaugural jersey designs. Next up? A fan vote to choose each team's new threads for 2016-17. "It has always been important to us for our fans to have a voice," said NWHL commissioner Dani Rylan. "The NWHL's inaugural jerseys were designed and voted on by fans, and we're excited to commemorate their importance by retiring the historic set. Memories were made, miles were logged, and history began in those jerseys. It all started with our fans, and we’re excited to hear what they have to say for Round 2." Each voter will be faced with the following choices
:

Boston Pride
Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 12.29.47 PM The reigning Isobel Cup champion Pride eschew yellow as their primary color in favor of white, but they keep the Boston Bruins-inspired scheme of black, white and yellow. The first option is more classic, with smaller horizontal stripes on the arms and wasteline. The second offers thicker striping with 1970s and 1980s-inspired piping on the sleeves.
Buffalo Beauts
Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 12.30.05 PM Nice injection of color for the Beauts, who previously featured the black and grey much more prominently than the baby blue. Fans will choose between classic striping, which features more white, and the more modern sleeves.
Connecticut Whale
Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 12.30.19 PM The Whale swap out blue and make green their primary color now. It's a matter of which shade of green. Both jerseys pay tribute to the Hartford Whalers, but the latter is closer. Its striping at the wrists is almost identical to that of
this early-1980s Whalers getup. The former option has a more playful feel with the wave on the bottom stripe – a carryover
from Tabitha Hummel's 2015-16 design.
New York Riveters
Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 12.30.35 PM The Riveters, who now call Newark, N.J., home, ratchet up the red after their primary jersey was white in 2015-16. The first option carries over the Rosie the Riveter-inspired logo, which is extremely badass. The second stretches the word 'Riveters' diagonally across the front, a-la New York Rangers, with Rosie remaining as an arm patch. Go to
https://nwhl.zone/jerseys/ to vote on 2016-17 NWHL jerseys. The vote closes Sunday, Aug. 7 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
