WINNIPEG - Defenceman Nolan Baumgartner scored 1:48 into overtime to lead the Manitoba Moose to a 2-1 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs in American Hockey League action Friday night.

Baumgartner took a pass from defenceman Shaun Heshka just inside the blue-line and fired the puck over Bulldogs' netminder Marc Denis' shoulder to give the Moose a franchise-record 48th win.

The game may not have gone into overtime without the stellar goaltending of Manitoba's Cory Schneider who made 35 saves. Marc Denis blocked 18 shots for Hamilton.

The win evened the season series between the two Canadian teams at 3-3.

Ryan Russel scored Hamilton's only goal in the first period and Jason Krog's power-play goal early in the third forced overtime.

Russell, standing directly in front of the Moose net, redirected defenceman Mathieu Carle's blue-line drive at 9:21 to give the Bulldog's a 1-0 first period lead.

The teams both played hard and smart in the opening frame, sticking to hockey with just one penalty called - a hooking infraction against Bulldogs defenceman Yannick Weber.

Hamilton, playing strong positional hockey, outshot Manitoba 16-8 in the second period. Schneider, the leading netminder in the AHL with a GAA of 1.92, made a number of key saves.

The lone scoring opportunity for the Moose in the second was when forward Jason Jaffray, in a short-handed situation, fought off two defenders, broke into the clear, and was robbed by Denis on a pad save just as the puck appeared to be heading for the far corner.

Just 16 seconds into the third the Bulldogs' Brock Trotter was assessed an interference penalty and Krog was credited with the tying goal at 1:42. Matt Popes' backhander in front of the net went off Krog's skate.

Manitoba improved its AHL-best record to 48-20-0-6. The Bulldogs, third in the North Divsion, are now 44-26-4-0.

The teams meet again on Sunday afternoon.
