The NHLPA's search committee announced Wednesday that it has selected Reilly Partners, an executive search firm out of Chicago, to assist in the process of hiring a new executive director.

The search committee, comprised of Michael Cammalleri of the Los Angeles Kings, Chris Chelios of the Detroit Red Wings, Shawn Horcoff of the Edmonton Oilers, free agent Eric Lindros and Robyn Regehr of the Calgary Flames, interviewed a number of search firms across North America before settling on the Chicago outfit.

"The members of the committee are very pleased to be taking the next step towards hiring a new executive director," Lindros said in a statement. "We continue to do our due diligence in order to find a leader that can further advance the interests of all NHLPA members and the game of hockey."

The committee has not set a timetable to name the successor to Ted Saskin, who was fired in May over accusations that he ordered the reading of players' e-mails. A full investigative report on the matter is expected sometime next month from Toronto lawyer Sheila Block.

The search committee will work closely with Reilly firm consultants, Robert Reilly Jr. and Dave Poulin, a former NHLer who played 13 seasons with Philadelphia, Boston and Washington. He was an active union member in his time.

"After reviewing several search firms we felt that the Reilly Partners firm was the best fit for the NHLPA," said Cammalleri. "Dave Poulin's experience as a former NHLPA member will certainly be valuable during this important process."
