NEW YORK, N.Y. - Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner has been suspended for two games without pay for kicking St. Louis Blues forward Scott Nichol, the NHL announced Friday.

The suspension will cost Skinner US$9,729.72.

The incident occurred at 19:03 of the second period of Carolina's 2-0 win against visiting St. Louis on Thursday. After being knocked to the ice along the boards, Skinner used his skate blade to push Nichol away. No penalty was assessed on the play.

League disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said on the NHL's website that Skinner had received a warning for slew-footing just 24 hours prior to Thursday's game.

The league also fined Phoenix captain Shane Doan $2,500 for boarding Calgary defenceman Mark Giordano in the Flames' 4-1 win over the Coyotes on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 7:49 of the first period. Doan was assessed a minor penalty for boarding on the play.
