NHL needs a lesson on all-stars

Why is the NHL so bad at this All-Star Game thing?

First they have ridiculous lists for the starting roster vote (some of whom hadn't even played a game yet, due to injury), and now they've brought in Scott Niedermayer as an injury replacement. Sure, he's an all-star, but he hasn't even played 20 games!

Are they trying to tell me there was no one else? How about Dustin Byfuglien, Ron Hainsey, Brian Rafalski, Lubomir Visnovsky, Rob Blake, Brent Burns, Marek Zidlicky, or Craig Rivet? They've all got decent stats, and they've all played the entire season (minus a few games due to injury).

I think it's an insult to all those players, and more, that Niedermayer was named to the team.

In other news, I hope Sergei Kostitsyn is named to the young-stars lineup to replace Pittsburgh's Tyler Kennedy.

Straight out of junior, Kostitsyn has had a solid year with and without the puck. The thing that continues to surprise me most about both Kostitsyn's is how physical they are. You expect them to be soft, but they throw solid checks, and Sergei even got in a fight with Chuck Kobasew during the 8-2 win over Boston.

Sergei, Andrei and Guillaume Latendresse all deserve to be in the young-stars lineup.
