TORONTO - The NHL's director of officiating has decided to return to the ice.
Stephen Walkom will attend the NHL officials training camp both as an administrator and as a referee candidate for the upcoming season, according to NHL.com. Walkom joined the league's head office four years ago after a long on-ice officiating career.
The 41-year-old Walkom said he is excited about his new challenge.
"The adrenaline is going," he told NHL.com. "I am coming back to the NHL game that is like the playoffs every night and every game."
A new director of officiating will be announced soon, the league website said.
