The Montreal Canadiens recalled the NHL All-Star Game MVP from the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps on Sunday afternoon, sending center Michael McCarron down in a corresponding move.

John Scott is on his way to Montreal is slated to finish the season in the NHL with the Canadiens.

The Canadiens recalled the NHL All-Star Game MVP from the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps on Sunday afternoon, sending center Michael McCarron down in a corresponding move. TSN’s Frank Seravalli is reporting that Scott is expect to remain with the Canadiens, whose season consists of three more games – the last being Saturday when they host Tampa Bay.

Scott, a journeyman enforcer, was voted to the All-Star Game to captain the Pacific team when he was a member of the Arizona Coyotes. He was then traded to the Montreal Canadiens in a three-team deal that saw Jarred Tinordi head to Arizona, but was immediately demoted to the AHL. Scott had one assist and 25 penalty minutes in 11 games prior to the deal, his last game coming Dec. 31. However, the 33-year-old did still captain the Pacific all-stars in Nashville, scored two goals and was named the MVP of the 3-on-3 tournament – revitalizing the event in the process.

Scott returned to St. John’s where he recorded two goals, four points and 85 penalty minutes this season. Over the course of his 285-game NHL career, the 6-foot-8, 260-pound left winger and defenseman has five goals, 11 points and 542 penalty minutes.

Scott is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agents in July and could be in tough to sign an NHL contract this summer given the league-wide decline in fighting. However, Scott is working with author and journalist Mitch Albom on a movie script. And if he doesn’t play next season, at least Scott’s story would have a big-league ending.
