NEW YORK - The New York Rangers have further bolstered their defence corps, signing blue-liner Wade Redden on Tuesday.

The Rangers agreed to a six-year deal, worth US$6.5-million per year with the restricted free agent.

The Rangers also locked up defenceman Michal Roszival, who passed on free agency to sign a $20-million, four-year extension.

The 31-year-old Redden appeared in 80 games with the Ottawa Senators last season, registering six goals and 32 assists for 38 points, along with a plus-11 rating and 60 penalty minutes. Redden spent 11 season with Ottawa.

Redden, a two-time all-star and Silver medallist at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, ranked third on the Senators in average ice time (22:12), and led all team defencemen in assists (32) and points (38).

The six-foot-two, 209-pounder from Lloydminster, Sask., was originally the New York Islanders' first round choice, second overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
