NEW YORK - Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne is the NHL's first star of the week after posting four wins and two shutouts.

New York Islanders centre John Tavares was the second star while Anaheim Ducks winger Teemu Selanne took third star honours. Rinne was 4-0-0 record with a 1.22 goals-against average, .958 save percentage and a scoreless streak of 149 minutes four seconds, helping the Predators rise to fifth in the Western Conference.

His shutouts came in a 5-0 win over Minnesota, when he made 17 saves, and in a 1-0 overtime win versus Columbus, when he stopped 33 shots.

Tavares led all NHL scorers last week with seven points (three goals, four assists) in three games. He tied an Islanders rookie record with five points (two goals, three assists) in a 5-2 victory over Vancouver last Tuesday.

Selanne recorded just four points in three games but his only goal, in Sunday's 5-2 win over Colorado, was the 600th of his career.

He's the third European-trained player to reach the milestone, following Jaromir Jagr and Jari Kurri. Selanne's next goal will tie Kurri for most career goals by a Finnish-born player.
