Murray says Sabres should zip it over Alfredsson hit on Tallinder

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said this week that Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson should have been suspended for a hit from behind on defenceman Henrik Tallinder in overtime of Game 2 of the NHL Eastern Conference final.

Murray disagrees.

"I was just asked that question earlier - what are we going to do about Lindy?" Murray said before Game 3 on Monday at Scotiabank Place.

"It seems there's been a fair amount of debate on the Alfredsson hit."

Murray says Alfredsson hit Tallinder on the hip from the side. He said he was told by NHL officials that "maybe it could have been a two-minute minor, but we're not sure."

He added that Buffalo should have been penalized for a cross-check on Chris Kelly as Daniel Briere scored the tying goal with six seconds left in the third period.

"We all complain, that's the bottom line," Murray added. "We have to let the officials make the calls, whether we like them or not. We'll complain. I'll complain, too, and you guys will call me a whiner. That's OK."

Ruff said it would be a game-time decision whether Tallinder will play in Game 3.

He lay on the ice for a long while after the hit but returned later in overtime.

"I don't feel great, but I feel OK," Tallinder said.

He was surprised no penalty was called on the play.

"It was a pretty bad hit, I'd say, but I guess the refs didn't see it," he said. "There were two pairs of eyes and no one could see it. It's pretty amazing."

Alfredsson said he hadn't seen the replay but felt that "it didn't feel like a hit from behind."
