WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Moose scored twice in the third period Friday to beat the Grand Rapids Griffins 2-1 in Game 1 of the American Hockey League's North Division final.

Trailing 1-0 through 40 minutes, Moose centre Alexandre Bolduc tipped the puck past Griffins goaltender Jimmy Howard on the power play at 1:16 of the third to tie the game.

Manitoba captain Mike Keane scored just over a minute later as the Moose prevailed for a 1-0 series lead.

The Griffins needed just three shots in the first period to get on the board. Francis Pare scored at 18:04 to give Grand Rapids their early lead.

Cory Schneider, the AHL's goalie of the year, made 21 saves for the Moose, while at the other end Howard stopped 32.

This is the third time in four seasons the two teams have met in the AHL playoffs.

Their last two series went to a Game 7. The Moose won the 2007 North Division semifinal, while the Griffins came out ahead in the 2006 North Division final.
