Minnesota Wild let fans paint rink, hilarious messages ensue

The Minnesota Wild allowed their season seat holders to paint the rink following their post-season exit and some of the messages are hilarious. There are requests for dates, a few random names and a message for the Chicago Blackhawks. Also, Minnesota fans don't seem very fond of Steve Ott.

For the second straight season, the Minnesota Wild allowed their season seat holders to come down onto the ice to paint some final goodbye messages to the club as summer approaches. However, as the Wild surely know, hockey fans can be a sour bunch when a once-promising season comes to an unexpectedly early close in the post-season. So, in typical fandom fashion, more than a few fans took the opportunity to write messages in line with how they feel about some of the opponents the Wild faced in their two rounds of playoff hockey. Near one crease, one fan took the opportunity to let their feelings about St. Louis Blues winger Steve Ott be known and next to the other, yet another fan expressed their displeasure with the Blues' pest. There's also one fan who captured every fan's post-playoff sadness with, "I wanted more." But the best message of displeasure comes from the fan who writes, simply, "Nobody likes Chicago." It's simple, understated and gets right to the point: nobody likes that team that ousted the Wild in four straight. Take a look at the full-ice display:

(Click to enlarge) There are some other great messages strewn across the ice, too. One of my personal favorites is in the top right corner, where one fan wrote "SEKERA" as if to give Minnesota GM Chuck Fletcher an idea about who he should go out and get this off-season. As can be expected, there are more than a few messages to specific players. Charlie Coyle, for instance, is going to have to make some calls and set up a few dates. Darcy Kuemper has himself a few fans. And Nino Niederreiter has a whole space dedicated to him and the Swiss flag. It's a nice piece of ice art. And if nothing can console the Wild, at least grandma still loves them. Really, what else could they be hoping for?
