Former NHLer and current Rochester American Michael Nylander will undergo neck surgery Monday, which may end the center’s career.

Nylander sustained an injury to a vertebra in his neck after being hit by Grand Rapids Griffins defenseman Brendan Smith Saturday.

Nylander was loaned to Rochester by the Washington Capitals after spending last season split between the American League and Finnish League. He has played in 920 career NHL games, scoring 209 goals and 679 points.
