Metallurg holds off Salavat Yulaev for 4-3 win, extends series to Game 6

Metallurg Magnitogorsk, on the brink of elimination, held on to defeat Salavat Yulaev 4-3 in Ufa today to extend the Kontinental League Eastern Conference final. Salavat Yulaev leads the best-of-seven series 3-2, with the sixth game scheduled for Sunday in Magnitogorsk.
 
After the two teams traded goals early in the game, Metallurg capitalized on their aggressive approach and consistent pressure to open up a 4-1 lead midway through the second period.
 
Salavat Yulaev rallied in the third period to close the gap, but goals by Jakub Klepis (51st minute) and Viktor Kozlov (60th minute) were too little too late.
 
Sergei Fedorov lead Metallurg with a goal and an assist, with Stanislav Chistov adding two assists in the road win.
 
The KHL Gagarin Cup playoffs continue Saturday with the sixth game of the Lokomotiv-Altant Western Conference final in Mytishchi. Altant leads the series 3-2. Salavat Yulaev and Metallurg return to action on Sunday, April 3rd in Magnitogorsk.
