FENELON FALLS, Ont. - A memorial service is being held in Ontario today for former Toronto Maple Leafs player Allan Stanley.

He died in a nursing home on Oct. 18 at the age of 87.

The former defenceman played for a number of NHL teams during his 22-season career, and won four Stanley Cups with the Leafs in the 1960s.

The Timmins, Ont., native was nicknamed "Snowshoes'' for his ponderous skating style.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.

A large crowd is expected at Stanley's memorial service, which is being held at a church in Fenelon Falls, Ont. (CKRU)
