St. Louis picked up a loose puck behind the net before skating into the right circle and scoring the game-winner on a wrist shot. The Lightning forced overtime when Dan Boyle scored his second power-play goal of the game with 20.5 seconds left in the third. Boyle's defected blue-line shot went in off Thrashers defenceman Andy Sutton.
Jason Krog and Steve Rucchin had the Atlanta goals. Kari Lehtonen had preserved a 2-1 lead when he made an outstretched pad save on Vincent Lecavalier during a breakaway with nine minutes to play in the third.
Krog, recalled from Chicago of the AHL before the game, made it 1-0 from in close at 2:37 of the first. He last played in the NHL during the 2003-04 season, recording six goals and 18 points in 80 games with Anaheim.
Rucchin put Atlanta ahead 2-0 at 2:36 of the second. Boyle cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal during a 5-on-3 power play with 11:17 left in the period.
Tampa Bay's Johan Hedberg stopped 23 shots. Lehtonen had 30 saves.
