TORONTO - Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson has undergone minor heart surgery, the NHL club announced Friday.

Gustavsson had the procedure in London, Ont., after being examined by the same medical specialists that treated him last season when he was first diagnosed with an abnormal heart rhythm. He has since undergone two heart surgeries to treat the condition.

The Swedish goaltender was pulled Wednesday following the first period of the Toronto Marlies victory over the Connecticut Whale due to an elevated heart rate. It was his second straight start since being assigned to the AHL for a two-week conditioning stint.

That conditioning assignment has since been suspended and Gustavsson has been placed on injured reserve. However, the club also said Friday he can resume workouts in seven days.

Gustavsson has played in 23 games for the Maple Leafs this season and has registered a record of 6-13-2, a goals against average of 3.29 and a save percentage of .890.
