Maple Leafs GM says Bryan McCabe considering waiving no-trade clause

Cliff Fletcher, the GM for the Maple Leafs, told the Toronto Star Friday that blueliner Bryan McCabe’s days in Toronto might not extend into the regular season after all.

"Bryan is starting to think about possibly getting his career started somewhere else," Fletcher was quoted in the Star. "We'll leave him alone. He's going to get back to us in a couple of weeks. There's not going to be any issues. I'm really confident it's going to be resolved amicably before training camp."

McCabe, who had five goals and 23 points in 54 games last season, has a no-movement clause that prevents the 33-year-old from being dealt or sent to the minors. He had previously expressed an interest in remaining with the Maple Leafs.

Fletcher also commented on the Mats Sundin situation, stating: "He's working out off the ice and he's supposed to start on the ice the beginning of the week.”
