TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs cut ties with Greg Gilbert on Friday, ending his three-year tenure as head coach of the team's American Hockey League affiliate.
Marlies assistant coaches Joe Paterson and Jim Hughes have been given permission to pursue other opportunities.
"Greg has been a valuable and loyal member of our organization," Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke said in a statement. "We appreciate the dedication of the Marlies' coaching staff and we wish them well in their future endeavours."
The Marlies went 39-29-5-7 in the regular season, then went on to lose in six games to the Manitoba Moose in the North Division semifinal.
Prior to joining the Marlies, Gilbert coached the Calgary Flames, the Worcester IceCats of the AHL, and the Mississauga IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League.
