Lundqvist does it again, robs rookie Duclair with amazing blocker save

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has allowed 14 goals this season, but that’s hard to believe with all the outstanding saves the 33-year-old netminder has made. During Thursday’s game, Lundqvist mishandled the puck behind his net before diving out with his blocker to stop Anthony Duclair.

New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist has allowed 14 goals through seven games, but every time he hits the highlight reel it’s hard to believe anything has gotten by him this season.

Lundqvist isn’t making the opposition’s job easy in 2015-16, making a wide-range of ridiculous saves fit for the nickname ‘King Henrik.’ After starting the year with a bang by making one of the best stick saves you’ll ever see, Lundqvist added another marvellous stop to his highlight-reel Thursday night with a blocker stop on Arizona Coyotes rookie Anthony Duclair.

The stop, which game after Lundqvist made a mistake playing the puck behind his own net, is almost on par with the save he was forced to make earlier this season on Columbus’ Ryan Johansen. Take a look:

Lundqvist has been nothing short of spectacular this season. His numbers aren’t on par with the unbeaten Carey Price, but it’s hard to complain about Lundqvist’s 1.99 goals-against average and .938 save percentage. In no game he has played this season has Lundqvist been beaten more than three times and only once has he faced fewer than 25 shots. He’s being tested and he’s answering in a big way.

The 33-year-old Lundqvist picked up his fourth victory of the season Thursday which now puts him at 343 for his career. With seven more victories, he’ll become one of only 19 goaltenders to ever reach the 350-win plateau in their career. Lundqvist has only had one season with fewer than 30 wins in his 10-year career, and that came during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season when he picked up a league-leading 24 victories.
