TORONTO - Longtime NHL executive Jim Gregory remained in intensive care Tuesday following a heart attack last week.

Gregory, 73, suffered the heart attack in the NHL's Toronto office last Thursday and was admitted to the intensive care unit at St. Michael's Hospital.

An NHL official, citing a family member, indicated Gregory has started to show "signs of slow progress," though he was still listed in critical condition Tuesday.

Gregory is the league's senior vice-president of hockey operations. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame who has spent more than five decades in professional hockey.

He formerly worked as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the NHL's director of central scouting.
