Lokomotiv took the first step to getting back on track, defeating Atlant 4-2 in Mytishchi Tuesday to stave off elimination in the Kontinental League Gagarin Cup Western Conference final. Atlant still leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 as action returns to Yaroslavl for Game 5 on Thursday.

Lokomotiv opened up a 3-0 lead midway through the third period courtesy of goals by Ivan Tkachenko (13th minute), Yury Urychev (43rd minute) and Marat Kalimulin (50th minute).  While supporters of the “Railwaymen” no doubt thought the game was in hand, Atlant had other ideas, striking for two quick goals, first by Ivan Nepryayev (56th minute) and then a short-handed tally by Sergei Mozyakin (60th minute).

Following Mozyakin’s goal, Atlant pulled their netminder, Konstantin Barulin, in favor of an extra attacker. Shortly after the following faceoff, however, Pavol Demitra found the open net to seal the win for Lokomotiv.

“In Yaroslavl, we played aggressive, tight,” said Lokomotiv's Gennady Churilov.  “Today in the very first minute we felt we would be victorious.  The main thing is that today our luck returned.  In the next game, everything should be exactly the same.”

The KHL Gagarin Cup continues Wednesday with Game 4 of the Salavat-Metallurg Eastern Conference final in Magnitogorsk. Salavat Yulaev leads the series 2-1.  Lokomotiv and Atlant return to action on Thursday.
