EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty missed the first practice of training camp Friday with an upper-body injury.

The defending Stanley Cup champions didn't provide a timetable for their star defenceman's return.

Doughty was injured during an off-season workout back home in Ontario, but has skated in recent days. Kings coach Darryl Sutter wouldn't provide specific details about Doughty's injury, saying only that the defenceman is "really good."

Doughty had five goals and 13 assists in 26 playoff games during the Kings' run to their second NHL title in three seasons. The high-scoring defenceman had 37 points during the regular season, his sixth in Los Angeles.

Goalie Jonathan Quick and forwards Jarret Stoll and Kyle Clifford all skated at the Kings' training complex Friday after off-season surgery.

Quick had surgery on his wrist shortly after the Kings' playoff run ended in June. The 2012 Conn Smythe Trophy winner said his wrist still "isn't 100 per cent yet, but we're working, and we're right on track with where we thought it would be at this point."

Quick might not play extensively in the preseason, but backup Martin Jones and veteran camp signee Jeff Deslauriers would fill in.

Stoll wasn't expected to practice early in camp after off-season hip surgery, but the veteran centre was on the ice with Clifford, who had minor surgery.
