The Senators desperately needed a victory to stay alive in the Eastern Conference wild-card race, and Kyle Turris provided one with a nearly full-ice breakaway tally in overtime to secure an Ottawa win over the Washington Capitals. With the win, the Senators pull within three points of Boston and have a game in hand on the Bruins.

You just can't kill this season's Ottawa Senators.

Two seasons after the 'Pesky Sens' craze, it appears that no matter what teams to do try and stop Ottawa's current run towards the post-season, they won't be beat. After getting ahead 3-0 on the Washington Capitals in the first period of Saturday night's game, the Senators lead was chipped away at. First by a tally off the stick of Marcus Johansson in the second period, then by back-to-back goals by Mike Green and Troy Brouwer in the third period. However, in overtime, Kyle Turris turned himself into the overtime hero with a strip and clear-cut breakaway tally that may have saved the Senators' season:

Turris' goal is his 23rd of the season and 58th point, tying his career high set last season. In the four seasons since coming to Ottawa, Turris has continually improved his output and will likely set a new career mark this season, possibly eclipsing the 60-point mark. At 25, Turris is averaging his highest points per game mark of his career and has been a huge factor for the Senators playing alongside Clarke MacArthur and rookie Mark Stone.

With the victory, the Senators are now three points back of the Boston Bruins for the second and final wild-card berth in the Eastern Conference. The Senators do, however, have a game in hand with an outing against the Toronto Maple Leafs coming tomorrow night.
