Forget double-jointed. Ak Bars Kazan goaltender Anders Nilsson might be triple-jointed. During Game 4 of Kazan’s second round series against Omsk, Nilsson bowed his body backwards to make a stop on Avangard’s Felix Schutz.
No top seed makes it through the playoffs unscathed, and that includes KHL Eastern Conference champion Ak Bars Kazan. However, Kazan goaltender Anders Nilsson might be the only reason they’re not tied after four games of their second round series.
In the fourth game of Kazan’s Eastern Conference semi-final matchup against Avangard Omsk, Nilsson made a stop on Omsk’s Felix Schutz that you wouldn’t even expect to see in a video game. Nilsson was down on his stomach and, without even pushing his body off the ice, reached up with his leg and his blocker to turn aside Schutz’s attempt at the open net:
Nilsson might have a career as a contortionist once he hangs up his skates.
The save by Nilsson preserved Kazan’s 2-0 lead, and Ak Bars went on to take the fourth game of the series 3-1. Kazan now leads the second round series 3-1, with the winner going on to face either Sibir Novosibirsk or Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Sibir currently leads that series 3-1.
