The Oilers are long out of the NHL playoff race, but Monday against San Jose, star winger Jordan Eberle gave Edmonton fans something to smile about with a dazzling goal on Sharks netminder Antti Niemi.

The Edmonton Oilers may not have much to play for in terms of moving up the NHL standings the rest of the season, but star right winger Jordan Eberle gave his team's fans something to smile about with a beautiful goal against the San Jose Sharks Monday night.

After a pass from Taylor Hall late in the first period, Eberle picks up the puck at the top of the circle in San Jose's zone and breaks in, first toe-dragging the puck around Patrick Marleau, then beating Sharks defenseman Brent Burns and goalie Antti Niemi before backhanding the puck into the net for his 14th goal of the year:

Eberle added another goal 22 seconds into the second period for his 15th to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead, but he was still on pace for a campaign on offense far worse than the 28 goals and 65 points he registered for Edmonton in 2013-14. That said, we're still talking about a 24-year-old player already in his fifth NHL season and whose best days are still ahead of him. Whether those years come in an Oilers jersey – or whether he's dealt this summer or afterward in a roster shakeup – is yet to be seen.
