The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without starting goaltender Jonathan Bernier Sunday against the Florida Panthers, as he recovers from a flu-like illness. Is it the mumps? Probably not. But they haven't been ruled out.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that starting goaltender Jonathan Bernier will miss Sunday's contest against the Florida Panthers with flu-like symptons.

As the mumps continue to run a muck on the NHL taking out a large majority of the Pittsburgh Penguins as well as numerous other NHLers, Bernier is showing no signs, but they have not been ruled out.

Bernier has appeared in 26 games for the Maple Leafs this season, earning a record of 14-8-3 with a 2.65 goals against average and a save percentage of .921.

The 26-year-old netminder had a monster performance in his last game for the Maple Leafs, earning a shutout on 43 saves against the Dallas Stars, including the one below on Stars sniper and NHL goals leader Tyler Seguin.

Toronto recalled Finnish goalie Christopher Gibson from the Toronto Marlies, who will back-up James Reimer until Bernier is healthy.

Gibson, 22, has appeared in 17 games this season with the Marlies, earning a record of 6-9-2 with a 2.52 goals against average. Gibson, who was drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft by the Los Angeles Kings, has never appeared in an NHL game.
