If Johnny Boychuk plays in this season’s All-Star Game, the hardest shot competition will be a sight to see. On Monday night, Boychuk unleashed an absolute laser of a slapshot to lift the Islanders over the Capitals in overtime.
If you blink, you’ll miss this Johnny Boychuk game-winning goal.
On Monday night, with Boychuk’s New York Islanders tied 3-3 in overtime with the visiting Washington Capitals, one of the Islanders big off-season pickups let go an absolute bomb of a slapshot that went into the goal just as fast as it came out.
We don’t have a speed clock on that laser, but it’s safe to say it was easily over the 95 miles per hour mark. Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby didn’t have a chance.
Boychuk hasn’t ever competed in the NHL’s hardest shot competition, but it’s safe to say the big defenseman taking part in the competition against former teammate Zdeno Chara would make for must-see TV.
While the two were teammates, some said the only player who could compete with Chara’s booming slapshot was Boychuk. With 3 goals and 15 points in 26 games, Boychuk may just be able to squeeze himself into the All-Star Game and the skills competition. If so, we can’t wait to see what his cannon of a shot is clocked at.
