Down 2-0 late in the second period, the Los Angeles Kings overtook and buried the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 2, led by a four-point third period from Jeff Carter and a beautiful game-winner by Jake Muzzin.

This is all you need to know about Game 2 between the Kings and Blackhawks:
quenneville With a 2-0 lead at home late in the second period, Chicago seemed to be in a good position. They looked poised to take a two-game edge into Los Angeles later this week. But their effort came up about 22 minutes short.

The thing about the Kings is, you can never count them out. They’ve come back from an 0-3 deficit and a 2-3 series deficit already this year and as Quenneville said, the game began to tilt in the Kings’ favor in the back half. Justin Williams got it going, but Jeff Carter took off in a ridiculous third period that shocked the Hawks with their first loss at home this post-season. In less than 15 minutes, Carter had scored a hat trick and four points, while the Kings as a whole converted five third period goals, tying a club post-season record. But the best goal was what turned out to be the game-winner by Jake Muzzin early in the second period. This is how you shoot the puck, kids.

It was one of the strangest games in a playoffs full of strange games. The last goal, by Carter, was into an empty net with three-and-a-half minutes left (looking to catch some Patrick Roy magic) and the way you could see the momentum shift after the Williams goal was obvious. The Kings woke up in the third period and became the Kings again – the killjoys of the NHL. Now the series is tied 1-1 and Los Angeles will host. What sparks these turnarounds? Could it be something Darryl Sutter says?
