Despite rumors of his return to the NHL next season, Jaromir Jagr will remain in the Kontinental League after signing a one-year extension with Avangard Omsk, for whom he’s played for the past two years.

Jagr told media he hadn’t been in negotiations with any other team.

When he was asked if he would consider returning to the NHL after this contract was up, Jagr didn’t seem to think it was a possibility.

"Next year I will be 39; I don't believe many clubs would like to have me (on their) team,” he said. “One has to be realistic.”

Jagr played 17 seasons in the NHL with Pittsburgh, Washington and the New York Rangers, scoring 646 goals and 1,599 points in 1,273 games. Over two years with Omsk, he has put up 95 points.

The future Hall of Famer will suit up for the Czech Republic at the World Championship in Germany that starts May 8.
