NCAA defenseman Mike Reilly informed the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday he wouldn't be signing them despite being drafted by the team in 2011. And Jackets star center Ryan Johansen reacted with a cold-blooded Tweet to let Reilly know he wouldn't be missed.American collegiate defenseman Mike Reilly told the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday he would not be signing with them despite the organization drafting him in the fourth round (98th overall) in 2011. And via a pointed message on social media shortly after the news, Blue Jackets star center Ryan Johansen told Reilly he wouldn't be missed in Columbus. The 21-year-old Reilly left the University of Minnesota in the spring to focus on a jump to the professional ranks, and his NHL rights belonged to the Jackets until June 15. But after Reilly and his representatives got permission from Columbus June 3 to speak with other teams, the Chanhassen, Minn. native decided he was not going to agree to a contract with the team and become an unrestricted free agent. That move was well within Reilly's rights, but it did not impress the 22-year-old Johansen, who unloaded on him in a Tweet:
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Reilly's list is down to the Minnesota Wild, L.A. Kings, New York Rangers and Blackhawks. Regardless of who he signs with, it will be worth watching Reilly (should he make it to the NHL level) battle Johansen in the years to come.
We didn't want him anyway— Ryan Johansen (@RyanJohansen19) June 17, 2015
