CALGARY - New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro left Monday's 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury that he described afterwards as "a little tweak."

DiPietro, who will be re-examined Tuesday, hurt himself sliding across the crease to try and stop a shot from Jarome Iginla on a Flames power play at 5:40 of the second period.

After talking to the Islanders' trainer and dropping into a butterfly a in the crease, the netminder left the ice and went straight to the locker-room.

"I don't know if a man's body is supposed to be contorted in those kind of positions," said DiPietro. "I felt a twinge and hopefully it's nothing serious."

DiPietro, who was credited with the win, departed having stopped 13-of-14 shots with the Islanders leading 4-1.

Calgary native Nathan Lawson, who was recalled from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League after the Islanders traded Dwayne Roloson to Tampa Bay on Saturday, replaced DiPietro in goal for New York and finished with 28 saves.

DiPietro had missed time recently with swollen knees, coming off a short stint on injured reserve to make 37 saves in the Islanders' 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Dec. 29.

Knees has been a chronic problem for the first overall pick in the 2000 draft. DiPietro missed the first 27 games of last season while recovering from off-season knee surgery.
