Individual awards shouldn't count on team success

Would someone please tell me why the playoffs determine whether or not a player is Hart or Vezina worthy?

Alex Ovechkin is the best and most valuable player in the NHL. When Pittsburgh lost Sid the Kid, they inserted Evgeni Malkin and didn't skip a beat. Without Ovie the Caps would be battling for the top pick instead of a playoff spot.

Then there’s this kid named Pascal Leclaire who plays for a team which gets little attention and isn't very good. And even though he plays on a less than stellar team, he still leads the NHL in shutouts and is top five in GAA and SP.

Sure his wins are low, but isn't being successful on a terrible team more impressive than putting up big numbers while surrounded by superstars?

Oh yeah and isn't there a thing called the Conn Smythe for playoff MVPs?
