Henrik Lundqvist makes perfect pass with his head

In a moment reminiscent of Dominik Hasek, New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist used his head to knock a puck out of the air and onto the stick of teammate Derek Stepan. The header counted as one of Lundqvist’s 33 stops in a 6-3 win over Florida.

During his heyday, longtime Buffalo Sabres netminder Dominik Hasek was known to stop the puck in many unorthodox ways. One of the most notable and, frankly, most odd ways Hasek stopped the puck was using his head.

That brings us to New York Rangers puck stopper Henrik Lundqvist, who on Monday channeled his inner Hasek to stop a long, floating shot by Florida Panthers center Dave Bolland using nothing but his head. Even better, Lundqvist used his lid to direct the puck down and right on to the tape of waiting teammate Derek Stepan.

The header came with less than half a period left in the contest and Lundqvist’s Rangers leading 4-3. New York would add two more tallies before the end of the outing, skating away with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Panthers. The odd stop was one of the Lundqvist’s 33 saves on the night.
