The exceptional young Swede has taken over the Red Wings while Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg are out with injuries. Check out his latest work of art, a game-winning goal against Boston.

OK, so he's not doing it alone – it just seems that way sometimes. But it definitely feels like Red Wings right winger Gustav Nyquist took a super-soldier serum when Detroit needed him most and he did it again last night against Boston. The University of Maine alum grabbed a turnover, blew by Norris Trophy candidate Zdeno Chara, then ripped one past Vezina Trophy favorite Tuukka Rask to score the game-winner for the Wings:

Though Pavel Datsyuk took the morning skate for Detroit, he did not play, meaning the Wings were once again without their two best players, as captain Henrik Zetterberg is still on the mend from back surgery. But Nyquist now has 12 goals and 14 points during a 10-game streak and the Red Wings are 6-3-1 in that span. Fellow youngster Tomas Tatar is also on fire, so Detroit is getting that vaunted scoring depth, even with a lot of injuries. What once looked like the end of a remarkable playoff streak (22 seasons) is now shaping up to be a year of hope. And is anyone else excited at the prospect of a Detroit-Pittsburgh clash in the first round of the playoffs?
