WINNIPEG - Guillaume Desbiens scored the shootout winner for Manitoba as the Moose beat the Abbotsford Heat 5-4 in American Hockey League action Wednesday.

Abbotsford's Kris Chucko and Manitoba's Marco Rosa also scored in the shootout.

Cory Schneider picked up the win for the Moose, while Leland Irving took the loss in relief for the Heat.

With the win, Manitoba (4-2-0) managed to split the back-to-back games with Abbotsford (1-0-3), the Calgary Flames' new farm club.

Abbotsford replaced Matt Keetley with Irving for overtime after the starter appeared to pick up an injury.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first thanks to goals by Rosa and the Heat's Jason Jaffray.

After a scoreless second period, the 5,516 fans at MTS Centre were in for a wild third.

Manitoba scored three straight goals by Sergei Shirokov, Desbiens and Mario Bliznak to make it 4-1 at the 11:05 mark.

But the Heat fought back with goals from Jamie Lundmark and Colin Stuart to make it 4-3. Lundmark's second of the night with 44 seconds remaining in regulation sent the game to overtime.

Manitoba outshot Abbotsford 44-38. The Heat were 3-of-4 on the power play, while the Moose scored on their only man-advantage.

Manitoba travels to Cleveland for a pair of weekend games. Abbotsford returns home for two games against Milwaukee.

NOTES: Manitoba was without leading goal scorer Michael Grabner (four goals, two assists), who was called up to the NHL on Wednesday by the Vancouver Canucks.
