CALGARY - The Calgary Flames have made a goalie switch, sending backup Curtis McElhinney to Anaheim for Vesa Toskala ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline.

The move reunites Toskala with Flames starter Miikka Kiprusoff, his former teammate in San Jose.

McElhinney was drafted by Calgary in 2002 and had spent his entire career with the organization. He played just 10 games this season.

"I'm surprised if anything," said McElhinney. "Obviously, it was a tough situation. It's difficult playing behind Kip. He loves to carry the load and he does very well with it, but I think this is a good thing.

"I'm looking forward to it as a good opportunity and hopefully a new setting will prove good things."

Toskala never appeared in a game for Anaheim after getting traded from Toronto on Jan. 31. The 32-year-old has made 26 appearances this season and has a 7-12-3 record with a .876 save percentage and 3.66 goals-against average.

He is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
