The 22-year-old forward from Welland, Ont., was the last cut by the Buffalo Sabres as GM Darcy Regier reduced his roster at the Tuesday deadline.
Buffalo will open the season at Carolina on Wednesday night with 22 players - one under the league maximum. The Sabres' home opener is Friday against Montreal.
Paille played 14 games with the Sabres last season, scoring one goal and assisting on two. The former captain of Canada's junior team had 14 goals and 13 assists in 45 AHL games with the Rochester Americans, the team he now is rejoining.
Paille was Buffalo's first-round selection, 20th overall, in 2002.
