BRANTFORD, Ont. - The assault trial of Ryan VandenBussche resumed Thursday after an almost five-month break with the former NHL player taking the stand.
VandenBussche told court in Brantford, Ont., on Thursday morning that he was known as an enforcer in the NHL rather than a goal scorer.
The Crown was to cross-examine him Thursday afternoon.
Norfolk provincial police allege VandenBussche punched two officers who were arresting his cousin outside a hotel in Turkey Point, Ont., in July 2006.
Police needed to use pepper spray and a Taser to subdue VandenBussche.
He was charged with assault causing bodily harm, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and threatening death or bodily harm.
The trial continues Friday in Brantford then again at the end of the month in Simcoe.
