Video surveillance evidence shown in court today shows Ramage making the purchase with fellow former NHL player Keith Magnuson.

Magnuson was killed in a horrific car crash several hours later - Ramage had to be extracted from the driver's seat of the car they were travelling in.

Ramage, 48, has pleaded not guilty to five criminal charges in the Dec. 15, 2003 crash just north of Toronto.

Court heard today from the Beer Store employee who served Ramage and Magnuson around 11:30 that morning. Robert Pitoscia testified both men appeared sober at the time, and that he sold Ramage a six-pack of Labatt 50 in cans.

Defence lawyer Brian Greenspan told the court he took no issue with the video evidence, conceding it clearly shows Ramage and Magnuson in the store that day.

On Tuesday, court heard Ramage was surprised to hear he had been driving the rented Chrysler Intrepid when it crossed a centre line and slammed head-on into a westbound Nissan Pathfinder in Woodbridge, Ont.

The crash also injured Michelle Pacheco, the Pathfinder driver.

Prosecutors Paul Tait and Dave Muoll allege Ramage was impaired and driving dangerously.

Ramage, who lives in St. Louis, is charged with impaired and dangerous driving causing the death of Magnuson, and impaired and dangerous driving causing bodily harm to Pacheco.

He is also charged with having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.

During his 15-year NHL career, Ramage played for eight teams, winning Stanley Cups with the Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens, and captaining the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Magnuson was a former defenceman with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The trial continues.
