PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Swedish defenceman Nicklas Grossman from the Dallas Stars on Thursday for a 2012 second-round NHL draft pick and a 2013 third-round pick.

The 27-year-old Grossman has five assists in 52 games this season. He has three goals and 41 points in 333 career NHL games, all with the Stars.

"He is experienced. He is a bigger body and he is a good solid defensive defenceman," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "He can kill penalties for us and play regular shifts. He can chew up minutes."

Grossman is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

"Nick being the player that he is, he's been a sought-after guy for a lot of teams," Dallas general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "It just kind of came together with Philadelphia over the last few days. We wish him luck. It's a good fit for him."
