Fantasy Pool Look: Crosby better with Therrien

It's no big secret that 'Sid the Kid' is a top fantasy pool draft pick.

However, if Sidney Crosby was lucrative under former Pens coach Ed Olczyk, he is twice the producer under new bench boss Michel Therrien.

Therrien came to Pittsburgh after leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the team's American League affiliate, to a 21-1-2-1 record and immediately made his mark.

Lasse Pirjeta was demoted to the minors, and Sidney Crosby was made alternate captain. Therrien made it known the 'Kid' was going to take on a more significant role, as would the other young players on the Penguins roster.

Heading into Monday night's action, Crosby had 11 points in six games under the new coach. Other youngsters, such as Tomas Surovy (eight points), Michel Ouellet (eight points) and Erik Christensen (four points) have thrived as well.

Each of the aforementioned four are getting two to four more minutes of quality ice time per game over what they were seeing under Olczyk. Against New York on Saturday, each one of them received at least three minutes of power play time. Ouellet and Crosby saw more time on the PP than the likes of Zigmund Palffy, Mark Recchi and John LeClair. It is a new Pittsburgh team indeedÂ…

After going pointless in nine contests, Alexander Perezhogin has been sent to the minors by the Montreal Canadiens. This is probably best for his development, as he was only getting ten or 11 minutes of ice time in the NHL. He'll come back strong next year with a solid 50 or 60 pointsÂ…

Chicago left winger Rene Bourque has gone seven games without a point. A very streaky player, his production won't be helped any by the arrival of the recently acquired Radim Vrbata. Vrbata will take away some of Bourque ice time as he gets an opportunity to kick start the Blackhawks offenseÂ…

Injuries, from a fantasy pool perspective: Buffalo's Daniel Briere had abdominal surgery for a sports hernia and is out until the playoffsÂ…Tuomo Ruutu (back) was in Chicago's lineup last night for the first time since NovemberÂ…

Farm Report: Minnesota blue-chipper Patrick O'Sullivan has 25 points in his last 19 games Houston of the AHL. This puts him fourth amongst rookies behind Eric Fehr (Washington/Hershey), Jeff Tambellini (Los Angeles/Manchester), and Ryan Vesce (undrafted-unsigned/Springfield). O'Sullivan, Tambellini, and Fehr are all elite prospects. Vesce, being 5-foot-8, 160 pounds, has an uphill battle to go anywhere as an NHLer.
