LONDON, Ont. - Asking the government to outlaw fighting in hockey was the hot topic at a meeting Monday about an upcoming symposium on hockey violence in London, Ont.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit says the NHL isn't taking the fighting issue seriously, and that something must be done to take danger out of the game.

The health unit has long asked for an end to hockey violence.

Those calls were recently renewed when Whitby Dunlops player Don Sanderson died after hitting his head on the ice during a fight.

The symposium takes place Feb. 24 at the London Convention Centre.

Those set to participate include former NHL officiating director Bryan Lewis, CBC broadcaster Scott Russell and Ken Campbell from The Hockey News.
