A future Hall of Famer hit a big milestone, while defense was a millstone for Toronto and Edmonton in our morning recap.

A future Hall of Famer hit a big milestone, while defense was a millstone for Toronto and Edmonton in our morning recap.

Essential Water Cooler

Tampa Bay's Martin St-Louis played his 1,000th NHL game last night, potting two goals and three points as the Bolts beat up on the New York Rangers 5-0. An unlikely hero if there ever was one, St-Louis has inspired a generation of diminutive players. Ask any prospect under 5-foot-10 who their hero is and they'll tell you it's St-Louis, an undrafted college player who couldn't hold on with the Flames, but found a home in Tampa, winning a Stanley Cup, a Hart Trophy, a Lady Byng Trophy and two Art Ross titles. So Hall of Famer for sure, right?

Primetime Play

Edmonton got owned by Chicago last night and this Nail Yakupov giveaway led to a shorthanded beauty by Jonathan Toews. The Hawks won 5-1.

Men of the Night

Ryan Johansen, Columbus: Not only did the emerging center grab two goals and a helper in a 6-0 demolition of Toronto, but he also killed penalties.

Loui Eriksson, Boston: Torey Krug got the OT winner as the B's beat the Pens, but Eriksson had the helper, along with two more points in the 4-3 triumph.

Ondrej Pavelec, Winnipeg: The Czech netminder got his 100th career NHL win as the Jets downed the Devils 3-1. Pavelec stopped 25 shots on the night.

Andrew Shaw, Chicago: The talented scrapper notched two goals and an assist in Chicago's takedown of the Oilers.

Sean Bergenheim, Florida: The Cats slowed down the hot Flyers, with the Finnish Bergenheim doing the bulk of the damage with two goals in a 3-1 victory.

Better Luck Next Time

While James Reimer wasn't great, the defense is front of the Toronto stopper was even worse in the Columbus drubbing, with Jake Gardiner standing out in particular. The youngster was a minus-2 on the night and put his team in a bad spot on numerous occasions.
