With ten games on last night, you were bound to miss something. Check out Dusk Til Dawn each morning, our daily recap of the key events from the previous night.
Essential Water Cooler In a game where scoring was difficult to find, to say the least, the Devils came up big when it mattered most. With just three seconds left in overtime, Travis Zajac won a draw to Jaromir Jagr, who pushed it right over to Marek Zidlicky, who rocketed a one-timer past Tim Thomas, all within two seconds. The goal also put Jagr in sole possession of seventh place on the all-time points list, moving ahead of his former teammate Mario Lemieux. The play may have been the biggest of the night in the NHL.
Primetime Play Not known for their highlight reel goals, the Blue Jackets pulled off one Saturday night against Winnipeg, as Ryan Murray, James Wisniewski and Cam Atkinson played tic-tac-toe, with Atkinson slamming home the goal to give the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead in the second period.
Men of the Night 1. A forgotten star of the Tampa Bay squad,
Matt Carle potted two assists, but more impressively ended the game with a plus-6 rating – not quite Tom Bladon’s record plus-10, but notable nonetheless. 2.
Cory Schneider kept the Devils in the game all night, stopping 30 shots and allowing just one goal in New Jersey’s 2-1 overtime victory against Florida. 3. A 45-save night is pretty incredible, but even more so when Detroit’s
Jimmy Howard does so while defeating one of their rivals and jumping up the standings. 4.
Tuukka Rask stood on his head the entire game, stopping 26 shots for Boston and shutting out the West’s top team, the San Jose Sharks.
Better Luck Next Time Shaquille O’Neal visited the Prudential Center last night to drop the puck, which is all well and good. But you’d think that when a seven-foot NBA superstar makes a cameo appearance, there would be a suitable jersey for him to wear – not the skin-tight leotard-like fabric he’s sporting here.
