Ducks laugh off Brett Hull saying Wings shouldn't worry about Game 6

Ducks players were shrugging off comments Hull, now a hockey analyst with NBC, made during Anaheim's 2-1 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings Sunday. The Ducks lead the Western Conference final 3-2 and can advance to the Stanley Cup final by beating the Red Wings in Tuesday's Game 6 (9 p.m.) in Anaheim.

"If I was Detroit, I would not be worried about being down 3-2, because they dominated," Hull said on air after the game. "They can go in and win (Game 6) and come home and win Game 7."

Anaheim defenceman Chris Pronger, who also isn't shy about speaking his mind to the media, shook his head when asked about Hull's prediction.

"That's why he's on TV because he's going to make statements like that," Pronger said after the Ducks practice Monday. "We didn't play our best game but at the end of the day you have to be able to win the hockey game.

"He should know that. He played the game. He hasn't been the best performer in every single game of his career either."

Hull, who won a Stanley Cup with Detroit in 2002, also was blunt in his assessment of the Ducks' performance in Sunday's game.

"They were terrible with the puck, they were terrible on the puck, they were terrible (on) positioning," he said. "They were just terrible."

Anaheim defenceman Sean O'Donnell said Hull is only doing what he's paid to do.

"One of the reasons Brett is here is to be definitive in what he says," said O'Donnell. "They don't want him sitting on the fence.

"If he doesn't think we're playing well he's going to go the other way and say we're playing terrible or getting dominated. It really doesn't matter what he said. The bottom line is we were able to get the (win) and be up 3-2."

Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle was asked if Hull's comments affected him.

"None what so ever," Carlyle said.
