Ducks, Blackhawks team up for huge hit, incredible goal, and outstanding save

Playing in a Friday matinee, the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks may have stolen the show before the evening’s games could even hit the ice. The game saw a massive hit, amazing hand-eye goal, and incredible desperation save – and that was just in two periods.

Boy, would a playoff series between the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks be fun. The two teams got together for a matinee game on Friday and it’s nearly impossible to contain the highlights to a single page. Here are two of the best.

The first clip comes from the first period. As the Ducks broke through center ice, Ryan Kesler got the puck and cut into the middle of the ice in the Blackhawks zone, and gets absolutely crushed in open ice by defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson. Before he got hit, however, Kesler moved the puck to Patrick Maroon who unleashed a shot that bounced off the glass behind goaltender Corey Crawford. Then, Anaheim’s Hampus Lindholm showed off some hand-eye coordination:

The second clip is one of the best saves of the early season and another clip for the Marian Hossa is Snakebitten highlight reel.

After getting a one-touch pass from Brandon Saad, Hossa was in all alone with Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen. With Andersen sliding to his right, Hossa pulled the puck to the left, outwaited the Ducks netminder, and just when he thought he had enough daylight, slid the puck on the ice. One could surmise that Andersen’s save will be on a loop for Hossa later tonight:

You can see Hossa’s clear frustration as he flips the stick into the air. It’s been one of those years for Hossa, as the Slovak has only scored three goals this season on 73 shots.
