Don Parsons, a forward with the Bloomington PrairieThunder of the IHL, netted his 678th career goal to become the all-time minor league goal-scoring leader Saturday night. Parsons passes Kevin Kerr, who retired after the 2004-05 season. The goal was Parsons’ 18th of the 08-09 season.

Parsons scored the all-time tying goal at the 12:53 mark of the first period against Flint. He netted the historic goal 20 seconds into the second period, putting the puck past Flint goaltender Chad Alban. Bloomington’s Nick Goyens and Marty Standish assisted on Parsons record breaking goal.

The 39-year-old Boston native is playing in his 17th season of professional hockey. He began his professional playing career in 1992 with the Nashville Knights of the ECHL, joining the team after he finished his senior year of college at University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Parsons currently ranks first among active players in goals scored (678) and points scored (1,303).
