ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Guillaume Desbiens had a goal and an assist to lead the Lake Erie Monsters to a 3-1 win over the Abbotsford Heat Saturday night in American Hockey League action.

The Monsters scored twice in just over a minute in the second period, and then Desbiens added a dagger with a breakaway goal in the third.

Joey Hishon and Michael Sgarbossa also scored for Lake Erie (4-4-0) while Mark Olver added three assists.

Monsters' goaltender Calvin Pickard made 23 saves in the win.

Corban Knight scored for Abbotsford (4-4-1). Reto Berra stopped 24 shots in the loss.

Knight opened the scoring midway through the first. Ben Street's point shot was stopped, but Knight banked home the rebound from a sharp angle.

Early in the second period, Lake Erie scored twice in 68 seconds to take a 2-1 lead.

First, Sgarbossa one-timed a cross-ice feed from Andrew Agozzino from the top of the right face-off circle while on the power play.

Hishon then put the Monsters up at 4:56 of the second, finishing off a tic-tac-toe passing play with Desbiens and Olver.

Desbiens gave the Monsters a two-goal cushion at 4:55 of the third when he was sent in on a breakaway by Mikael Tam.

The Heat went 1 for 5 with the man advantage, while the Monsters were 1 for 3.
