CHICAGO - Denis Savard is back with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Less than a month after getting fired as the team's head coach, Savard rejoined the organization Thursday as a Blackhawks ambassador. He joins Tony Esposito, Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita in a role that will see him represent the team in the community.

"It is important to our fans and organization that Denis remains a part of our family," president John McDonough said in a statement. "He is a very classy individual that embodies the spirit of the Chicago Blackhawks."

Savard is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and is one of seven Blackhawks players to have his jersey retired by the team. During 17 NHL seasons, Savard had 1,338 points (473-865) in 1,196 career games.

He also spent eight years as an assistant coach with the Blackhawks and parts of three seasons as the team's head coach before getting fired on Oct. 16.

"It means so much to me that Rocky Wirtz and John McDonough have given me this chance to continue to be a part of the Blackhawks family, something I have always wanted to do," said Savard. "I have been very fortunate to be a part of this organization, to wear these colours, for so long and this gives me the chance to continue to be a part of something I love.

"Today is a great day for me and my family."
